Mixed Emotions

By Jess, Contributor

There are less than two weeks till I’m back in the office. Well, at least half day working that is.

Then a week later, I’m back in the office full time.

And you know what? I’m ready. I mean, I’m not. But I so am.

It’s quite lovely to get dressed, blow out your hair and wear nice(r) clothes.  I’m kinda excited to wear the new heels I scored on super duper sale at Dillard’s a few weeks ago.  I’m looking forward to wearing something besides breastfeeding friendly sundresses so I can feed the kid while we’re out.  I’m excited about going back to a job I enjoy and I do well.

I won’t lie, I’m going to miss my Allie like crazy and worry about her because *ahem* she doesn’t quite know how to take a nap on her own or sleep in a crib. I know she’ll be fine. And Lord knows that they are going to know my face so well because I will be visiting daycare regularly. I’m just nervous.

I know my Ava will do great. Of course I’ll miss her too, but I know she’s ready to be back in the classroom. No matter what she says, I’m sure watching TV and hanging around here all day is boring.   School supplies have been bought and she is so excited and ready to start her new “big kid” school. I’m excited for her. I can’t wait till she learns to read and can read to her baby sister. The best part will be enjoying the time we have at home after school and weekends.

I should be more upset. Right? Remember that episode of The Office where Pam says that maternity leave “rocked her ass off?” I don’t think I’d go that far. I didn’t cry when Ava started daycare (then again I didn’t have to drop her off and watch her scream the way the hub did). We were both ready to start school and work then, and I think that helped.

My whirlwind of maternity leave is almost over and that’s OK. We will work out our routine and it’ll be great. I think we all need it and it’ll make daily life even better. I’m a creature of habit, and a Type A that likes to have something to show for my day, what can I say?

And there’s always the fabulousity of ideas from Pinterest (you can follow my boards). Here’s something I’d love to wear. Luckily I work in a business casual environment so I could totally rock this at the office. Thanks Pinterest for motivating me to go back to work so I can make money to buy these cute clothes.

  1. Right there with you – I felt the same exact way.  And had hubs drop B off the first day back so that I didn’t have to.
